FAT COMPLEX, 120 capsules, PSYLLIUM AND CHITOSAN

A Unique Combination Formulated to Support a Healthy Weight Maintenance Program

Overview

Our Fat Complex is a unique combination of Chitosan and Psyllium Husks formulated to support a healthy weight maintenance program. See below for more information on these two ingredients.

Fat Complex is available in 120 capsules.

Chitosan

Overview

Chitosan is a form of dietary fiber that is most commonly derived from the hard outer shell of such sea creatures as shrimp, crabs, and shellfish. According to research, Chitosan may have the unique ability to bind to fats in the stomach, thus preventing the fats from being absorbed into the body. Scientists think this characteristic is linked to Chitosan????s strong positive magnetic charge, which enables it to attract and bind to fats, which are negatively charged. The most common anecdotal applications for Chitosan are healthy weight maintenance and cholesterol balance.

Research Indicates

  • May support healthy cholesterol balance
  • Research is currently being conducted using Chitosan for several medicated wound dressing products
  • May support healthy circulation
  • Scientists agree that healthy weight maintenance benefits of Chitosan may be plausible, but no clinical studies have been conducted to support such claims

Cautions

  • If you are pregnant or lactating consult a health care practitioner prior to using Chitosan
  • Since Chitosan may prevent the absorption of fats, it should not be taken along with fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) and it may inhibit the absorption of some medications

Psyllium

Overview

Psyllium, an odorless and tasteless seed husk, comes from the small reddish brown to black seeds of the Plantago psyllium plant. Psyllium is a member of the family Plantaginaceae, and is not related to wheat. There are several species of psyllium, but the seed husks from Plantago ovata, also known as blonde psyllium, have the best quality and highest fiber content. Plantago grows as a weed in several places around the world and is cultivated for commercial use in Spain, France, India, Pakistan and other countries. Psyllium husks are pure dietary fiber, composed mostly of hemicellulose. They are not digested in the small intestine, but are partially broken down in the colon, where they act as a food source for friendly flora. Mostly, psyllium acts as a sponge in the intestinal tract, swelling as it absorbs water and waste material in the bowels. This forms a soft, bulky mass that passes through the colon more quickly (keeping potentially toxic waste moving in the colon) and evacuates more smoothly and easily. According to the Food and Drug Administration, psyllium may also help lower the risk of heart disease.

Research Indicates

  • Fiber is important for normal bowel function
  • May support healthy blood sugar balance
  • The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved psyllium to reduce cardiovascular disease risk with recent studies confirming risk reduction
  • May support healthy blood pressure
  • May support healthy cholesterol balance

Dosage

Typical daily dosage is between 1 and 4 grams.

Note: Psyllium should be taken with one to two additional glasses of water as it can expand in the throat and cause an uncomfortable sensation.

Cautions

  • If you have chronic constipation, a bowel obstruction, an ulcer, diabetes, are obese or are pregnant or lactating consult a health care practitioner prior to using Psyllium Husks.
  • Some individuals experience an allergic reaction when taking Psyllium. Some people may also have respiratory reactions to psyllium dust. Call your health care practitioner or seek medical attention if you have fast or irregular breathing, skin rash, hives or itching.
  • Psyllium may cause gastrointestinal pain, flatulence and abdominal pain. Consult a health care practitioner if these side effects become severe or do not go away.
